    Introduction plus a question about Fetch Dickson and Queer Guy
    Hello! I am very new to the QAF fandom. I only saw the series for the first time in October. There was a brief period of time when I could watch the full episodes on a website in China. Sadly, they are no longer accessible.

    Anyway, I have been searching for some time for a community that is still having in-depth discussions about the show, for many have been closed or inactive for a while. I am glad that I found you!

    I really enjoy reading post-513 fic, and I have been kind of working on my own. As I develop my storylines, I sometimes wrestle with how to resolve problems that I have with canon, such as the crazy timeline.

    One problem I have is that I find it very unrealistic that a t.v. station would hire a recent gay porn star to be their "Queer Guy." Based on what I have read on various websites, I am far from alone in feeling this way.

    How, then, do you deal with this when writing about Emmett? Do you pretend that Fetch Dickson never existed? Do you pretend that QAF takes place in a universe where t.v. stations have no problem hiring former porn stars?

    Has anyone written a story where this did become an issue for Emmett... like someone sent videos of Fetch Dickson to channel five news? Or maybe a new boyfriend didn't realize at first that Emmett was once a porn star?


    Would strangers recognize Emmett as Fetch, or Queer Guy, or both?

    The night was cold and clear, the snowstorm having moved north.

    On Liberty Avenue, lights glowed from businesses, and people walked slowly, almost contemplatively. Greetings and holiday wishes were shouted back and forth.

    Brian and Justin shared dinner and quips with Jennifer and Molly.

    Ted and Blake were sitting together, listening to Verdi.

    In Toronto, Gus was sneaking most of his underwear back out of his bag.

    When he fell asleep, Lindsay put them back.

    Ben explained various Solstice traditions to Michael and Hunter.

    Debbie and Emmett shared ice cream and watched old movies.

    Vic smiled down upon them all.

    After a weekend of puking in my house and the realization that gift exchange submissions are due tomorrow, i've abandoned porn. I'm made of fail.

    But I'm surprisingly ok with that, because the submissions we did get for Theme 13 at [info]bj_actionwere oh so good. :D And those authors are made of win. AND the amnesty wasn't in vain, because someone else did submit one, and i'm going to post it now!

    Now if you see me around between now and midnight tomorrow, yell at me kthnx. I'm supposed to be working on my gift exchange :D

    metafandom and its discontents
    There's been a big discussion going on in Greater Fandom over the community/asylum [info]metafandom, which puts out a list of links to interesting meta discussions across all the journaling sites every few days.

    Nutshell: They aren't linking to much meta lately. Why?

    I found a lot of interesting people to follow by reading [info]metafandom, and read some truly thought-provoking discussions. And I used to submit my stuff to them from time to time, and they would link to it, which I enjoyed.

    But the last three or four times I submitted a link, either mine or someone else's, either QAF-specific or "big picture" fandom meta, it was just ignored. I never knew if they just didn't like it, or didn't get  it, or what the problem was.

    I have nothing profound to add. I just assumed its moderators were in an echo chamber and didn't want minor fandoms, or maybe just didn't care for what I had to say, or possibly that moderator interest had waned and people's submissions were not being looked at anymore. I'm not an insider in that world and honestly can't say what happened, or why, or really, even when.

    But I do miss how it used to be, and miss seeing my stuff get linked to. I hope all this discussion results in a more diverse and vibrant [info]metafandom experience for us all.

    ETA: Just checked, and the last post of mine linked to from [info]metafandom was last April... this one.

    Just a short update on ma boys' health
    because some people wanted to know how they are doing:

    They are doing great!!!

    We started Ronny on his heart medication eight weeks ago,which started out with a lot of vomiting and diarrhea on his part,until the vet finally found the right medication.During this time he had to see the vet three times a week and he wasn't really happy about it. ;)
    Sometimes his heart was beating too slow,and then it was beating too fast, but just yesterday the vet said that now his heart is beating regular and that it sounds really good..so YAY!!!
    And with all the test the ved had done he found out that Ronny's blood pressure is a bit too high.So now he is taking medication for that,too.

    Giving him his medication was a pain in the ass for the first few day,but now he's used to get his liverwurst first thing in the morning...;D

    Remember Benny and his fat tumor right above his left shoulder joint?
    Well,turns out that it isn't THAT big anymore and that he doesn't need to have surgery.
    So that's YAY too,right?
    Right now he's outside,playing in the snow and digging holes into the ground.Ronny is sitting right beside me on the couch.He hates the cold and the snow and Benny loves it as much as he loves the sand on the beach...;)

    I don't read a whole lot any more, so it can take me a while to read things after they've been posted. But I can't sleep. And there was all this porn to be read at [info]bj_action. And suddenly I've found a new appreciation for all the snow in my front yard. Although its so hot in here after reading the fics for the Snowbound theme that I think the snow in my front yard might have melted clear to the street from the heat radiating out my living room. Yay Snow! is all I gotta say.

    Lunch and shopping in San Francisco
    I met up with the lovely [info]xie_xie_xie today for a lovely lunch and afternoon of shopping today.

    Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an ankle-length skirt!?!? IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

    Xie needed a new lipstick, so we trekked to Neiman-Marcus, where I watched her "get her makeup did." A lot of fun, actually, and the salesgirl was so effing cute. I wanted to stick her in my purse, but some people consider that kidnapping.

    We wandered upstairs, still in search of the eleusive ALS, and walked right into heaven.

    HEAVEN, I tell you!!!

    For just ahead, in all its red-soled splendor, was the Christian Louboutin display.

    I touched these, and had a quiet, dignified, tasteful spontaneous orgasm. I did, ask Xie!!!

    She dragged me away from there, at which time I performed unnatural acts on pairs of Stella McCartney's, Stuart Weitzman's and Manolo Blahniks. As we were leaving, I touched the Louboutins once more. I'm sure they winked at me.

    We finally found what I was looking for at Forever 21. Come Christmas, I will post pics of our most excellent finds.

    All in all, a wonderful day, with absolutely insanely gorgeous weather (mid 60's!! EYE NOES, RIGHT!?!?), considering that when I left home, it was foggy.

    We got cookies (my furry boys got their own cookies and me and my other boy got some very delicious,self-made Schokocrossies.Hmmmmmmm...YUMMY!!!!),two very tasty chocolate snowmen,a totally lovely Christmas card (Which I assume,is also self-made,right?) and some very beautiful Christmas ornaments for our Christmas tree.I really,really like them (Did you make them yourself too?)and they will look great on the tree.I'll post some pics as soon as it's up.
